KAZAKHSTAN
Located in Central Asia, Kazakhstan is the ninth largest country in the
world, covering an area of approximately 2.7m km2 with a population of
c.17m. Kazakhstan has benefited from a stable social and
political environment, together with one of the most developed economies
in the CIS. It was the first CIS country to obtain an investment grade
rating (currently BBB-) enabling easier access to international capital.
Oil and gas legislation allows entry of international investment into
the industry at all levels, subject to government approval. The
country contains within its boundaries some of the world’s most
significant reserves of natural resources, including, oil & gas,
coal, iron ore, and uranium.
